Ewen Spencer // JD & COKE

Ewen Spencer is a British photographer and documentary filmmaker known for his photography of youth and subcultures. Having begun his career shooting for Sleazenation and the Face, in 2003 he focused his attention on the burgeoning grime scene and self-published D&AD award-winning photography book Open Mic in 2005.

Ewen has undertaken significant advertising commissions including outdoor and editorial print campaigns and bespoke photo-books, zines and films for Nike, Apple, Footlocker, JD Sports, Redbull, Smirnoff, Lastminute, HTC, and Nokia.

In 2013 Ewen directed a short documentary exploring the UK garage scene for Dazed & Confused which was picked up by C4 for a long form national television broadcast. C4 and i-D magazine subsequently commissioned a four-part documentary film series “Street, Sound and Style” charting the journey of youth style and music from 1980 through to today.

Most recently, Ewen directed 8 BAR - THE EVOLUTION OF GRIME, his debut feature documentary for the BBC
